Scholarships administered through the Paul Robeson Cultural Center provide financial assistance to undergraduate students currently enrolled at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
The scholarships below are available thanks to the generosity and commitment of Rutgers alumni, parents, and friends who care deeply about the success of Rutgers students, particularly those of the African diaspora who have been historically marginalized.

Scholarship Applications open January 16th and close February 11th, 2024. Unless otherwise noted, applicants must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate student in good academic standing.

Dr. Cheryl A. Wall Memorial Fellowship
Dr. Cheryl A. Wall was a longtime Rutgers University professor and prominent scholar of African American women writers. In a teaching career of nearly five decades, Dr. Wall championed racial diversity both in the curriculum and the classroom. This fund supports doctoral students conducting research in African American or Black literature, Black feminism, or interdisciplinary studies. Learn more about Dr. Cheryl A. Wall.
EEOC/General Motors Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2002, the scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students based on financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Preference will be given to General Motors employees, their spouses, and children.
Paul Robeson Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by the Rutgers African American Alliance (RAAA) in honor of Paul Robeson. To be considered, applicants must be a full-time undergraduate student and in good academic standing.
Mae Turner-Moody Scholarship
Established in 2021 to provide financial assistance to students attending Douglass Residential College. To be considered, applicants must be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Douglass Residential College. Applicants must demonstrate active community involvement in or outside of Rutgers.

Will Power Retention Scholarship
Established in 2017, led by Frank McClellan RC'67, to increase graduation rates for students of color. The scholarship is named after an enslaved man named Will who helped lay the foundation for the Old Queens building. Preference is given to students in their final year who have an outstanding term bill balance.
RAAA Rites of Passage Graduate Scholarship
Established in 2020 by the Rutgers African American Alumni Alliance (RAAA). To be considered, applicants must be a graduating senior in good academic standing and demonstrate enrollment in an accredited post-graduate program. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a Rutgers-affiliated graduate program.
Pryor-Garnett Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2017 to honor the dreams and hard work of Madora Pryor and Ellen Garnett who were the offspring of slaves. They believed that with prayer and hard work, future generations would be able to achieve an education and not have to work in the fields in the heat or clean houses to provide for their families. Scholarships are awarded to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Awardees must be involved in extracurricular/volunteer activities in the community. Preference shall be given to students who are residents of Gloucester County, New Jersey or Essex County, Virginia.
Manuel Robinson, Jr. RC '54 Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2021 to reduce an incoming student's loan burden by providing additional scholarship money to fulfill unmet financial need after federal or other scholarship monies are awarded. To be considered, applicants must be a graduating senior at Atlantic City High School with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and must be accepted as a full-time student in the School of Arts and Sciences.
